Team Philippines Wins 3rd Place in Ragnarok World Championships

Sadly, we didn’t bring home the gold but Team Armada-Philippines, official RP team to the Ragnarok World Championships 2007 held at the Lotte Activity Center in Seoul, Korea (July 21 – 22, 2007), took the bronze medal after defeating Germany 2-0.

Team Philippines lost to the Korea National team 2-0 in the bid for one of two finals slots. Korea went on to battle Thailand (who defeated Germany) for the finals. Thailand went to upset the host country 3-1 in their best-of-five finals match to become the 2007 RWC Champions!

This is the best finish yet for our country in the second installment of the international Ragnarok tournament.

Carlo Ople aka Waukster, Brand Manager for Philippine Ragnarok Online reports how the inclusion of a SinX (Assassin Cross) for the Koreans turned the tide of battle for them. “Extremity Fists flew left and right but at the end of the day, the Assassin Cross of Korea made the difference as he was able to take out Team PH’s Priest with a series of quick Soul Destroyers powered by their Minstrel’s Bragi’s Poem.” writes Waukeen.

For their efforts, the Philippine RWC team will take home a trophy and approximately USD3,000 (or around PHP150,000) in cash prize.

In an interview by Joey Alarilla at Hackenslash, Milton Sy, manager of Team RP said, “It’s just so sad that we had to immediately face South Korea. Their build [the choice of which characters will make up a party and the stats for these characters] was strong against the Philippines. Their build negated our Dancer [one of the Ragnarok character classes], so it was almost like seven versus six in our match against them,”

There were 11 countries that participated in RWC 2007: South Korea, the US, Russia, Japan, Thailand, Taiwan, Brazil, Indonesia, Vietnam, Germany and the Philippines.

Team Armada of Baldur (formerly Chaos and Loki) won the rights to represent the country after besting other teams in the RWC tournament stage. This is part of the Ragnarok  Philippine Championships 2007, just one of the many online game tournaments that Level Up, the country’s first and biggest publisher of online games and MMORPGs, has lined up for the LIVE 2007 event.

The Philippine team is composed of Bein Patrick Limpin, Mel Bryan Unera, Chris Dimaunahan, Emmanuel Deleon, Jeffrey Custodio, Frederick Banaag and Aaron James Fernandez.

With the RP contingent in Korea are Carlo Ople, Brand Manager of Ragnarok; Level Up Marketing Director Jake Sandiego, Level Up CEO Jane Walker, Milton Sy and Armada “elders” Kevin Go (Leic) and Marlou Fuma.
